Frequently asked questions

What are peptides?

Short chains of amino acids, smaller than proteins, that act as signalling molecules in the body. They direct cells to perform specific functions — tissue repair, hormone release, appetite regulation, and more. Read our full guide to peptides for a detailed explanation.

Are peptides legal in the UK?

Research peptides are legal to purchase in the UK. They are not classified as controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. However, they are not licensed medicines and cannot be sold for human consumption. All products from Peptide Shop UK are sold strictly for research purposes. See our legal guide for the full picture.

How should peptides be stored?

Lyophilised (powder) peptides should be kept at -20C for long-term storage. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store refrigerated at 2-8C and use within 28 days. Full details in our storage guide.

What is the difference between bacteriostatic water and sterile water?

Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, allowing multiple draws over 28 days. Sterile water has no preservative and must be used within 24-48 hours. Always use bacteriostatic water for peptide reconstitution.

Which peptide should I start with?

That depends on your research goals. Our selector quiz can help narrow it down, or browse the comparison tables to compare options side by side. If you're completely new, start with the getting started guide.
